The shifter on mine snapped while going from nuetral to second gear. Remnants' broken edges looked exactly like the junk Chevy makes powdered metal connecting rods out of. Some pieces just fatigue sooner than others, and climate seems to be a part of the problem as well. Extreme heat or cold will change the structure of metal pieces, and if a weak spot already existed, in these circumstances it is likely to let go.
